EMAS, the Eco-management and Audit Scheme, is a voluntary
initiative designed to improve companies' environmental performance
in Europe. Its aim is to recognize and reward those
organizations that go beyond minimum legal compliance and

In addition, it is a requirement of the scheme that
participating organizations regularly produce a public
environmental statement that reports on their environmental
performance.

Green Tag® is a third party, green building product
rating and certification system, underpinned by rigorous scientific
and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) processes. Its advanced, robust LCA
certification methodology developed exclusively by ecospecifier, is
a world first.
The Green Tag® ecolabel rating positions a product
within the top end of the green product market enabling
manufacturers to be able for the first time to fully communicate
the work they have undertaken to improve the ecological and health
benefits of their products.

Greenguard Certification Programme
The Greenguard Certification Programme is an
industry-independent, third-party testing program for low-emitting
products and materials. These products are regularly tested
to ensure that their chemical and particle emissions meet
acceptable IAQ pollutant guidelines and standards.

Greenspec (USA) is an independent publishing company committed
to brining members accurate, unbiased and timely green design
information. GreenSpec carries no advertising and is not
sponsored by any industry or manufacturer fees. There are 26
GreenSpec criteria organised into 5 categories:

material
- Conserves natural resources
- Avoids toxic or other emissions

The Blue Angel is the first and oldest environment-related label
in the world for products and services. The Blue Angel

an all-round consideration, and which also fulfil high standards of
occupational health and safety and fitness for use.
Economical use of raw materials, production, usage, service life
and disposal - all these factors are assigned a high
importance.

The European Eco-Label
The Flower is the symbol of the European Eco-label - a guide to
greener products and services. It is a voluntary scheme
designed to encourage businesses to market products and services
that are kinder to the environment and for European consumers -
including public and private purchasers - to easily identify
them.

The New Zealand Ecolabelling Trust - Environmental
Choice New Zealand (ECNZ)
The NZ Ecolabelling Trust is a voluntary, multiple
specifications-based environmental labelling programme, which
operates to international standards and principles. Initiated
and endorsed by the NZ Government, Environmental Choice recognizes
the genuine moves made by manufacturers to reduce the environmental
impacts of their products and provides a credible and independent
guide for consumers who want to purchase products that are better
for the environment.

The Swan is the official Nordic eco-label, and it demonstrates
that a product is a good environmental choice - introduced by the
Nordic Council of Ministers.

Underwriters Laboratories, UL
Underwriters Laboratories, UL (USA), has developed more than
1000 standards for safety. Standards for safety are essential
to helping ensure public safety and confidence, reduce costs,
improve quality and as a result consumers live in safer environment
than they would have otherwise.

US Green Building Council
The U.S. Green Building Council is committed to a prosperous and
sustainable future through cost-efficient and energy-saving green
buildings. With a community comprising 80 local affiliates, more
than 18,000 member companies and organizations, and more than
155,000 LEED Professional Credential holders, USGBC leads a diverse
constituency of builders and environmentalists, corporations and
nonprofit organizations, elected officials and concerned citizens,
and teachers and students.
The Council developed LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental
Design, as a green building certification system. Products
acquire LEED points which can be used to certify green
buildings.
