Why choose Rubber flooring?

Rubber flooring is growing in popularity, both in commercial and recreational settings, and for good reason!  Although many specifiers are interested in rubber flooring, particularly its environmental benefits, they are put off by the unknown: Is it expensive?  Are there different types?  Where can I use it?  Is it really better than other resilient options?   Are there local installations of it?

Why choose Rubber flooring?

  • Great underfoot cushioning- perfect for using in staff breakout areas in the office, and open plan corridors and stairways for acoustic benefits, as well as in gyms
  • PVC free- worried about Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) or looking for PVC-free credits?  Rubber's a great PVC-free alternative for most areas
  • Excellent slip resistance
  • Environmentally friendly- Regupol is constructed from pre and post consumer recyclables, including EPDM chips and car tyres and has Good Environmental Choice Australia certification
  • Designer looks -both Nora and Regupol are available in roll format or as tiles of varying sizes, so can easily be matched with other tile flooring products (like carpet tiles or ceramic tiles) to continue a pattern, or create a whole new look.

Is it expensive?

It depends on the type, thickness and patterns chosen.  You can select anywhere between Regupol Classic 4mm, which is equivalent in price to our mid range vinyl collections, to Nora's upper end selections which are about double the cost.  Generally speaking, rubber flooring isn't a budget-oriented flooring choice; instead it should be considered ideal for projects where environmental consciousness outweighs strict budget concerns.  Don't discount rubber flooring based on your budget though - contact one of our experts and we'll help you to find a solution to fit your project - for example, some project have successfully met their budgets by using a smaller area of rubber flooring, matched with a less expensive complementary floor-covering.

Are there different types of Rubber flooring?

Yes!  Jacobsen have the Nora and Regupol brands.  Regupol is 4 to 12mm thick, depending on the application, manufactured from pre and post consumer materials (eg EPDM chips and car tyres).  It is excellent for enhanced resilience underfoot (the 4mm is fabulously comfortable to walk on).

Nora looks like vinyl and can be used in almost exactly the same way.  Nora's range includes the traditional 'pirelli' round studded look, plus hammered and smooth textures.  It has some great bright colours - check out this installation at Mystery Creek Events Centre in Hamilton.

Where can I use Rubber flooring?

Regupol is widely used for leisure facilities - gyms, around pools etc.  It's also ideal for retail (the matt black is very stylish, and can be inlaid with patterns) and is great for underfoot comfort in breakout areas in the office, including kitchens;as well as corridors and stairways in open plan spaces.

Nora is used extensively in education, and office facilities looking for environmental friendliness.

Regupol is not applicable for healthcare, toilets and workshops
